YEREVAN
The central Armenian town of Abovian in Kotayk province, 20 km
off Yerevan is hosting today a labor fair, initiated by the State
Employment Center.
The goal of the event is to help job seekers to meet with employers who
have vacancies. In a press release the State Employment Center said
the labor fair 'has a large significance for the region's economic
development and may encourage businessmen to increase or make fresh
investments in the region.'
The State Employment Center organized the first labor fair in 2007. In
2008 it was assisted by USAID and World Bank. Last year it held six
labor fairs in different towns attracting 220 employers and 11,000
job seekers. The employers offered last year 1,360 vacancies.
As a result 400 people were said to have found jobs. The labor fair
in Abovian is the fifth this year. It has attracted 34 employers who
offer 130 vacancies. Some 2,500 job seekers are expected to visit it.
