ArmInfo. "Maragha - It was truly like a contemporary Golgotha
many times over," said Baroness Caroline Cox whose words have been
repeatedly cited during presentation of a website telling about this
tragedy. The website unveiling that horrifying incidents in the village
of Maragha on April 10 1992 was presented on September 9 in Yerevan.
Samvel Martirosyan, the information security expert, says presentation
of maragha.org is just beginning of the work. He says that much is
still to be done to reveal all the black points of what happened in
Maragha. For instance, the exact number of the killed Armenians is
not known yet. S. Martirosyan says that the NKR Prosecutor's Office
will provide 5 volumes of documents and materials on that vicious
genocide of the Armenian population.
"Genocide of Armenians in Maragha is a bright example of armenophoby
because most of the killed were peaceful residents including children
and old people. Today Azerbaijan keeps on implanting the image of
enemy-Armenians and welcoming such crimes. For instance, mass media
of that country has been praising and calling a hero the Azerbaijani
soldier that viciously axed the head of the Armenian officer. This is
abnormal, " the expert says. Other less known facts of bloodshed by
Azerbaijanis with regard to the Armenian population, specifically, the
tragic incidents in Kirovabad, will be disseminated worldwide, he says.
Maragha was one of the largest villages of Nagorno Karabakh. It WAS
because on April 10, 1992, the Azeri' "omon" forces broke into the
peaceful village Maraga, neighboring the Azeri town of Mirbashir.
Barbaric massacre was inflicted. 45 people were tortured to death. 49
people were taken hostage, of them 9 children, 18 women, 3 elderly
(one of the elderly people was visually impaired). 19 of them are
still missing. The massacre continued from April 22 through April
23 when the survived residents of Maraga returned to the village to
bury the dead. Marahga tragedy was a link in the chain of genocides
committed by Azerbaijanis against Armenian population. Maragha tragedy
differs from others with the fact that the village was aside the
military actions and the small group of self-defense in the village
was armed with hunters' guns and constituted no threat to the army
of Azerbaijan. Baroness Caroline Cox, who had visited the place of
the tragedy, was shocked to the innermost of her heart by what she
had seen. 'They are not of human race' - the Baroness said.
