Pirate products still sold in Armenia despite the new law
Friday 1 April 2011 15:53
Yerevan/Mediamax/. Pirate products are still sold in Armenia despite
the fact that the new law on `Compulsory labeling of magnetic audio
and video carriers with check symbols (holograms)' came into effect on
March 1.
Mediamax reports that General Director of `Armauthor' Copyright
Protection Public Organization Susanna Nersisyan stated today that 90%
of CD and DVD products supplied in Armenia represent pirate
production.
`There is the law, however there are no necessary mechanisms for its
application', Nersisyan stated. According to her, the main functions
on applying the new law are on the Tax Service of Armenia, however the
necessary check symbols for the goods are not ready yet.
Susanna Nersisyan informed that for legal sale of audio and video
products, the owners of stores should acquire the corresponding
permission. `This issue is regulated by `Armauthor', which already
possesses agreements with many local and foreign companies', she said,
noting that no one has turned to them to receive the corresponding
permission so far.
