Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has urged law enforcement
institutions to intensify efforts in investigating the March 1,
2008 events, the president's press office reported on Wednesday.
After the 2008 presidential election, Armenian opposition headed by
the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who lost the then race for
presidency, staged protests saying the election had been fraudulent
and the results had been rigged. The rallies ended in clashes between
protesters and law enforcements.
As a result, ten were killed and 200 injured. Many were arrested.
"I've repeatedly said and reiterate now that expectations were
great," Sargsyan said Wednesday at his meeting with law enforcement
and judicial officials. "I mean the Match 1 events. I expect a new
impetus and intensification in investigation."
The president stressed that he new about all objective problems,
which hobbled investigation.
"Perhaps, nobody is informed about these problems better than I,"
the president said. "But I should stress again that the matter is
very important to our state and our nation," he said adding that the
case must be cleared also to leave no room to some people for reaping
fruit from this situation.
The head of state demanded the meeting participants to consider all
the circumstances in details again. He doesn't rule out that new
details can be found.
