'THE CHURCH, THE SCHOOL AND THE FAMILY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE ARMENIAN CHILD'
Said Aram I In His Palm Sunday Message
ANTELIAS, Lebanon - On 17 April, Palm Sunday, more than a thousand
children accompanied by their parents came to Antelias, to celebrate
the triumphant entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem. Palm Sunday is also
the "Day of the Armenian Child" instituted by His Holiness Aram I,
soon after his consecration as Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia.
After the Holy Liturgy, the celebrant, Bishop Shahe Panossian,
the clergy, the choir and the children walked in procession around
the compound of the Catholicosate and at the end, Catholicos Aram I
addressed them from his balcony. The Catholicos told the children the
story of the triumphant entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem and explained
what the story might mean to them. He then addressed the adults and
said that the church, the school and the family bear the responsibility
for the education of the Armenian child. At the end of the message,
the children flew colorful balloons into the sky. The festivities were
concluded with Catholicos Aram I blessing each child and giving him/her
a karaoke DVD with Armenian children's songs and an Easter chocolate.
In the afternoon, the Catholicos presided over the service of the
"Opening of the Door" (Trenpatsek), reminding the faithful of the
Last Judgment.
