YEREVAN, APRIL 20, ARMENPRESS: Two-day conference on "Armenian Genocide
and the Scandinavian Response" opened today initiated by the Armenian
Genocide Museum-Institute. The conference is dedicated to the 150th
anniversary of Fridtjof Nansen. Many professors from Scandinavian
states are participating in the event.
In the opening speech the director of the museum Hayk Demoyan pointed
out that the conference is aimed not only to wake memories about
the genocide but select the regions who witnessed the committing of
genocide and keep many memories and documents.
"Almost all the Scandinavian states, who adopted neutral position
during the years of the First World War, nevertheless became part
of the events that took place in 1914-1918. The representatives of
Scandinavian peoples - Swedish, Norwegians, Danish were trying to
stretch hands to the Armenian people and share our pain. The list of
these humanitarian people is headed by big friend of Armenian people
Fridtjof Nansen, through who we, Armenians, recognize the character
of an Norwegian person", Demoyan said.
