AKHTAMAR CHURCH IN TURKEY TO OFFER LITURGY

The church of Holy Cross (Surb Khach) on Akhtamar island (Turkey)
is preparing for a holy mass.
The ceremony will take place on September 11, Archbishop Aram Ateshyan,
the vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople has said,
according to the Turkish news agency Dogan.
The archbishop said this year's liturgy will be held in a peaceful
environment, without causing any problems around.
"Last year there were certain complaints that the church did not have
a cross atop its dome. There is a cross this year, so we do not have
any problem. We are hopeful everything will go peacefully," he said,
adding that no official invitations have been issued.
The Turkish authorities had renovated Holy Cross in 2007, but an
official permit to serve annual masses there was issued only last
year. The first liturgy was offered by Archbishop Ateshyan on September
19, 2010. The cross was placed on the dome ten days later.
