In the first half of 2011, a total of 458,098 Armenian citizens left
the country, and 368,763 returned. Thus, the unfavorable migration
balance was 89,345, Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of the Census and Demography
Division, Statistical Service of Armenia, told journalists.
In the first half of 2011, 16,238 people got registered and 17,831
were struck of the lists, with the unfavorable migration balance
being 1,593 people against 1,546 last year.
"Since these are only official figures - some people do not register
their leaving or arriving - the electronic system registers all the
crossings of checkpoints," Kuyumjyan said. A total of 754,371 incomings
and 821,644 outgoings were registered, the unfavorable balance being
67,273 people.
By July 1, 2011, the Armenian population had reached 3,266,400 people
- 3,800 people more as compared with the beginning of the year and
11,000 people more as compared with last July.
