News.Az reprints from Gun.Az an interview with MP Asim Mollazade.
How can you assess the situation in Iran in general terms?
This is a state built on totalitarian, clerical and ideological
foundations. The socioeconomic problems in the country become more
acute day by day due to country's isolation. In addition, lack of
human and political rights exacerbates tension within the country.
The suppression of nations and ethnic groups that have lived in Iran
for centuries paves a way for social and political explosion in the
country. Millions of Azerbaijanis living in Iran are denied even the
minor rights. They are deprived of education in mother tongue. This
discrimination holds true in both television and media.
Along with Azerbaijanis, Turkmen people and other Muslims do not
enjoy any rights while rights of Armenian community are ensured at
the highest level possible.
This shows that Iranian authorities misuse religion for political
purposes. Ethnic discrimination hinders development of the country
in such a multinational country like Iran.
How will the upcoming elections in Iran take place on the backdrop
of president-religious leader standoff which is almost impossible to
hide any more?
They will resort to force as they did before. I believe the wave of
disturbances will reach Iran, too and masses will take to streets
to protest.
So, the standoff in Iranian political leadership is not going to
slow down?
Such standoff caused by domestic situation in Iran will deepen the
gap between the sides even further.
