YEREVAN.- Exchange of population will help solve the problem of the
Armenian residents in the liberated territories, said member of Social
Democrat Hunchakian Party Vahan Shirahanyan.
According to him, thus handling the situation would be easier than
in case of conflict's resolution, when the Armenian side will have
only a 10-kilometer corridor between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Speaking of territorial exchange, he noted that the Armenian population
could return to the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is now
controlled by Azerbaijan - territory of Shahumyan and Getashen,
part of Martuni and Martakert regions.
"Of course, there will be people who do not want to leave their homes,
but in general it is the most constructive solution," Shirhanyan told
journalists on Friday.
The politician considers idea is useful while dealing with several
other territorial disputes.
"For instance, if it was announced that henceforth Nakhchivan is a
part of Armenia, I am sure that all the Azerbaijanis living there
would like to return to their country in case they get a house and
land," he added.
