US Millennium Challenges Corporation invested $177 million in Armenia

YEREVAN. - Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan participated in
the opening ceremony of pumping stations of Cholakar and Martuni
communities in Gegharkunik region of Armenia.
The pumping stations of Cholakar and Martuni communities,
reconstructed by U.S. Millennium Challenges Corporation-Armenia (with
investments of $ 3.5 million and $2.5 million respectively) are
located in Sevan National Park.
The total amount of MCC-Armenia investment in Gegharkunik region is
more than $8 million, which includes renovation works of Vardenis
gravity system and irrigation systems in 9 communities.
Renovation of 17 pumping stations is the largest component of
MCC-Armenia program, which required more than $44 million. The program
installed modern pumps and motors on all 17 stations as well as
introduced automation of the system.
The prime minister highlighted the significance of the MCC project.
`Millennium Challenges Corporation has invested over 177 million
dollars in Armenia. As a result about 350 rural communities have been
involved in the program, which means that over 400 thousand
inhabitants benefit from it,' Sargsyan stressed.
