PETITION FOR RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN BELGIUM

BRUSSELS. - Despite the adoption of the "Resolution on the Armenian
Genocide committed in 1915 by the Government of the Young Turks at
the head of the Ottoman Empire" on March 26, 1998, Belgian politicians
publicly deny its existence, reads the petition of Armenian community
of Belgium. The denial was registered in cases of Emir Kir (Socialist
Party - PS), Mustafa Ozturk, Sait Kose (Reform Movement - MR), and
Mahinur Ozdemir (Humanist Democratic Centre - CDH).
The purpose of new petition is to raise awareness among as many people
as possible about the reality of the Genocide and the sad fact that
it is publicly denied by Belgian politicians. The petitioners call on
Emir Kir (PS), Mustafa Ozturk, Sait Kose(MR) and Mahinur Ozdemir (CDH)
to make a public apology to the Armenian community for the offense.
They also urge leaders of the parties Elio di Rupo (PS), Charles
Michel (MR), and Joëlle Milquet (CDH) to terminate the affiliation
of the deniers of their parties.
