Armenia
Yerevan/Mediamax/. A firm message of "zero tolerance" of ill-treatment
should be delivered to all policemen in Armenia.
The report published today by the Council of Europe's Committee for the
Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment
(CPT) reads this, Mediamax reports.
The report stresses that during its visit to Armenia in May 2010,
the CPT's delegation heard a significant number of allegations of
police ill-treatment.
CPT experts recommend to develop a training on advanced crime
investigation methods and to reinforce safeguards against
ill-treatment. The report also comprises recommendations on placing
more emphasis on the structural independence of Special Investigation
Service of Armenia.
