HRAZDAN RESIDENTS DEMAND ARMENIAN PM TO CLARIFY NEWS ON IRON MINE EXPLOITATION

YEREVAN. - The possible exploitation of an iron mine in Armenian
city of Hrazdan worries local residents and community organizations,
who have addressed an open letter to Armenian PM on the issue.
"Non-official sources inform that the government has ordered an
expertise on the territory of Hrazdan iron mine. The rumors circulating
in the city say that the study revealed uranium deposits in the mine,
which has caused a wave of anxiety among the people. We believe this
uncertainty might become ground for people's irritation.
To avoid this, we kindly ask you to provide constructive explanations
on the issue," reads the letter.
The letter is signed by number of NGO, including Hrazdan Aarhus Centre,
Forests for Future Generations NGO, Children Assistance Fund NGO,
Kotak AAC, and local Hrazdan TV channel.
