The Hraparak Daily reported that President Serzh Sargsyan's brother,
Member of Parliament Sashik Sargsyan, who is known to run construction
companies inside and outside Armenia, is set to monopolize this
sphere system. He is trying to take hold of small companies selling
building materials.
In particular, he has recently seized shares of a shop of building
materials in Pokr Vedi Town, Ararat region, situated on the highway
and therefore profitable. Though the owners of the shop, for clear
reasons, deny this information, the whole town already knows about it.
Moreover, they say Sashik's people entered the shop and said "either
you close it share 50/50".
By the way, Sashik Sargsyan is also said to run several fish farms.
The press reported about his U.S.-based "businesses", export of sheep,
as well as a number of scandals featuring Sashik Sargsyan.
President Serzh Sargsyan has repeatedly dwelt on reforms, noting that
there should be no businessman in the next parliament. Many people
believe that in order to make people believe him Serzh Sargsyan must
set an example. A recent newspaper report held that Sashik Sargsyan
will not be in the next parliament.
This will be the first step but the issue will not be solved. Serzh
Sargsyan should be able to uproot such phenomena and "place" his
brother in legal business activities, based on honest competition,
lack of sponsorship, equal opportunities and other beautiful things
about which Serzh Sargsyan speaks every now and then.
