Expert: new wave of violence against Kurds likely in Turkey late August

    August 20, 2011 - 15:06 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent
statement regarding the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) prove
that new wave of violence against the Kurdish population is
    approaching, an Armenian expert said.

`Repressions are likely to start late August,' Anush Hovhannisyan told
    a news conference in Yerevan.

According to her, Turkish officials' statements about talks with the
Kurdish leaders are nothing but imitation.

Turkish warplanes and heavy artillery struck Kurdish guerrilla targets
in northern Iraq in a third consecutive night of raids. In a statement
on its website, Turkey's General Staff said fighter planes had hit 20
rebel targets in Qandil mountain, Sinath-Haftanin, Hakurk and Gara in
northern Iraq, adding the planes had all returned to their bases.
