ARMENIA'S HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER ISSUES STATEMENT
Tert.am
22.08.11
The office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has issued a
statement "On the misinformation disseminated on behalf of the Court
of Appeal."
The statement deals with the Human Rights Defender's recent application
to Armenia's relevant agencies for holding three Armenian judges
responsible for violations of law.
According to the statement, the Court of Appeal or any of its
chambers are not legally authorized to discuss the activities of
the Human Rights Defender of Armenia. Therefore, the misinformation
disseminated on behalf of the Court of Appeal of Armenia is the result
of individuals' illegal activities.
"The illegal appeal for 'further abstention from such kind of actions'
addressed to the Human Rights Defender, a constitutional authority,
may in future be viewed as attempts to exert pressure on the Human
Rights Defender, or officials' attempts to impede his activities or
as threats addressed to him. Such actions involve responsibility to
the extent of criminal punishment," says the statement.
