"Processes and phenomena in the Armenian market or economy defy an
economic explanation," said economist Zoya Tadevosyan, member of the
Armenian National Congress, dwelling on the recent sugar price rise.
According to her, "among oligopolies in imports, sugar import
is monopolized by MP Samvel Alexanyan (when Congress said 76 MPs
violate the Constitution and run businesses, Alexanyan denied running
businesses but he trapped himself when he tried to explain why the
sugar price rose). No economic but psychological "rules" dominate
the monopolized market. It is all about greed," says Tadevosyan.
