PROPERTY RETURN TO MINORITIES SERVES FOR NEW IMAGE OF TURKEY - EXPERT

YEREVAN. - The decision of Turkish PM on returning the property of
national minorities is not a reason for inspiration yet. It is a step
toward forming a new image of Turkey, Dean of the Oriental Studies
Faculty of Yerevan State University, scientist of Turkish studies
Ruben Melkonyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
According to Melkonyan, the Turkish ruling Justice and Development
Party still in 2008 adopted the bill on "Property", which became later
a law. It gave an opportunity to return the property of the national
minorities, taken from them in 1936 and 1975. However, only some
cases were realized with the interference of European Court. Thus,
the decision should be considered in the context of general politics.
Armenian News-NEWS.am earlier informed that the Official newspaper of
Turkish government on August 28 published a statement of the Turkish
PM. On that decision the property of the national minorities will be
returned to the owners.
