ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT ELECTS SPEAKER AND VICE SPEAKER

YEREVAN.- Speaker and Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament will
be elected during the regular four-day session opening on Monday.
According to information at Armenian News-NEWS.am's disposal, the
vote is scheduled for Tuesday.
During last week's meeting ruling Republican Party's council decided
to nominate current deputy parliament speaker Samvel Nikoyan for
the post of parliament speaker. It was also decided that MP Eduard
Sharmazanov, who is currently press secretary of the party, will be
nominated as deputy parliament speaker. Another MP Gagik Melikyan
will be appointed to Sharmazanov's position.
Former Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan handed in his resignation on November
14 to head the campaign office of the Republican Party.
