MAYOR OF MARSEILLE HOLDS RECEPTION IN HONOR OF ARMENIAN PRESIDENT

Mayor of Marseille Jean-Claude Gaudin held a reception at Marseille
Mayor's Office on December 7 in honor of President Serzh Sargsyan,
a Panorama.am correspondent reported from France.
In his remarks, Mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin touched upon the occasion of
the President's visit, the Congress of the European People's Party
(EPP) being held in Marseille as well as Armenian-French relations,
the role of the port of Marseille in rescue of Armenian Genocide
survivors and the Armenian community of Marseille. The Mayor thanked
the Armenians for their efforts in prosperity of the city over the
past century.
Jean-Claude Gaudin also talked about the friendly relations between
Marseille and Yerevan. The Mayor noted that there is a new possibility
for adoption and implementation of a bill criminalizing denial of
the Armenian Genocide, and the issue can be settled in the near future.
President Serzh Sargsyan in his remarks also stressed the significant
role of Marseille in salvation of Armenian immigrants as well as
the consistency of the French government and particularly municipal
authorities of Marseille in settlement of the Armenian issues. He
thanked French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Marseille Mayor
Jean-Claude Gaudin on behalf of the Armenian people.
Serzh Sargsyan reiterated his invitation to Jean-Claude Gaudin to
visit Yerevan and assuring that the fir he had planted in Yerevan
will not be left without care, nevertheless expressed the hope that
he will visit Yerevan and will personally water the tree.
