The OSCE and other international organizations should put more effort
into the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, a top Azerbaijani
official has said.
The head of the foreign relations department at the Presidential
Administration, Novruz Mammadov, said the OSCE should not just rely on
the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group but act on the recent statement
by the leaders of co-chair countries and call on the international
community to be effective in resolving the conflict.
"I think that just the statements of the co-chairs are not enough. The
point is that the biggest mission of the OSCE and other international
organizations is to ensure security. For example, the OSCE was
established to ensure security and cooperation in Europe. However,
as long as the conflict remains unsettled, Europe's security cannot be
ensured. From this point of view, it's necessary to exert all efforts
and stand for a just settlement of the conflict," the New Azerbaijan
Party website reported Novruzov as saying.
He described Armenia is a country occupying 20% of Azerbaijani
territory for 20 years.
"Armenia must withdraw from the occupied territories. The next stage
should focus on this. The OSCE Ministerial Council's summit in Vilnius
once again heard statements about the necessity to change status quo.
I think it necessary to increase efforts on this."
Mammadov said that Azerbaijan's election as a non-permanent member
of the UN Security Council in 2012-2013 would provide an opportunity
to put forward the issue.
