ELMAR MAMMADYAROV: "AZERBAIJAN HASN'T LOST HOPE FOR PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF THE CONFLICT"

Baku-APA. Brussels-based Security and Defense Agenda jointly with
the Azerbaijani Communications Office organized debate on topic
"A conversation with Foreign Minister".
Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan (AVCIYA) told
APA that more than 110 representatives of Brussels-based international
organization, NGOs, media and diplomatic corpses attended the event.
During the debate Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov informed about
Azerbaijan's way after achievement its independence 20 years ago,
its achieving the status of active country in the international
scene, the establishment of relations with neighboring countries in
energy and other spheres, current situation of the determination of
legal status of the Caspian Sea and of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno
Karabakh conflict, EU-Azerbaijan and NATO-Azerbaijan relations. Saying
that Azerbaijan rendered assistance to the western countries and
NATO alliance by deployment military contingent in Afghanistan and
participation in humanitarian programs, "a strong conviction" that
the international community must continue to support the war-torn
country beyond NATO's 2014 pull-out.
The representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament
and various Centers of the Strategic Studies asked the questions to
the minister about Azerbaijan's economy, its role in energy security
of Europe, the increase of Europe's role in the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict, Mammadyarov said that the conflict was the most painful
and foreground issue for Azerbaijan and noted that Azerbaijan hasn't
lost hope for peaceful settlement of the conflict. He underlined that
"compared to what we can achieve through peaceful solution, the life
of even a young soldier is a high price to be paid". Mammadyarov
also gave an online interview to Bloomberg TV. The interview's video
can be found in the website of the "Washington Post" newspaper. The
"World Street Journal" has prepared the large article on the interview.
