NEW PROGRAM TO BAN NON-ELIGIBLE 'BENEFICIARIES' FROM GETTING FAMILY ALLOWANCE

Some 18,000 families in Armenia were deprived of allowances in 2011
thanks to a new information system elaborated by the Ministry of
    Labor and Social Affairs.

Introducing the advantages of the new program at a news conference on
Wednesday, Minister Artur Grigoryan said it is aimed at ruling out
the possibility of giving allowances to families who do not qualify
    for them.

"Submitting false information on one's social status will be no
longer possible," he said, adding that the system allows for finding
those people, by revealing such data as employment status, form of
    ownership etc.

"The new information system has all the levers to disclose the
people who resorted to fraud, and deprive them of benefits," the
    minister said.

Beginning 2012, the new system will operate throughout Armenia. It
will provide general characteristics of an individual's social status
based on information available on the social security card.

Another advantage of the system, according to the minister, is to
    cut red tape procedures.

"We do not seek to deprive anyone of allowances. We just want to
ensure that those getting the allowance do really need them," he added.
