ARMENIAN EXPERT FINDS HONEST ELECTIONS UNLIKELY

The electoral processes in Armenia will be contrary to what is being
presented, according to Harutyun Mesrobyan, a public administration
expert.
At a news conference on Wednesday, the Mesrobyan said the authorities'
current policies do inspire any hope that the elections will be fair
and honest.
"They say they are implementing social policies whereas the poverty
rate tops 35%. The argument that we are in a transitional period
and facing a blockade are not justified," he said, adding that a
transitional period cannot last 20 years.
The expert said that the political forces will start conducting
mysterious policies ahead of elections in an attempt to enhance
their reputation.
"Instead of submitting real programs those forces seem to be proposing
a toast," he said, calling on the population not to cherish vain hopes.
Mesrobyan said only an alternative choice could provide a solution
to the existing problems.
"We should assist such alternative [political] force once it emerges,"
he said.
