FORTUNE RESOURCES IS WORKING ON PROJECT TO DEVELOP HRAZDAN IRON ORE DEPOSIT

A project to develop Hrazdan iron ore deposit was discussed in
Armenia's Nature Protection Ministry on Wednesday.
The press service of the Ministry reports that Nature Protection
Minister Aram Harutyunyan, representatives of the Fortune Resources
company (the owner of the project), the nature protection and energy
ministries and environmental NGOs took part in the discussion.
The director of the company said that the project will undergo a
number of examinations, particularly, environmental impact assessment.
Harutyunyan said that the project will undergo all examinations
stipulated by the law, including public hearings.
Meanwhile, the population of Hrazdan are concerned that the deposit
is located just 2-3 km away from the residential area and the Hrazdan
River and held a protest action Nov 9.
The Hrazdan, Abovyan and Svarants iron ore deposits are owned by the
son of the chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Economic Issues,
the ex nature protection minister Vardan Ayvazyan Suren Ayvazyan and
by MP Tigran Arzakantsyan.
This year the deposits were bought by the Fortune Oil company from
China for $24mln.
