PRELATE TO CELEBRATE DIVINE LITURGY AT THE CRESCENTA VALLEY PARISH
On Sunday, December 18, 2011, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian,
Prelate, will celebrate Divine Liturgy and deliver the sermon at the
Armenian Apostolic Church of Crescenta Valley.
Divine Liturgy begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Prelacy "Dikran and
Zarouhie Der Ghazarian" Hall.
Requiem will also be held in memory of Iraqi-Armenian intellectuals
and public servants.
After the service, at 1:00 p.m., a lecture on "The Iraqi-Armenian
Community: Past, Present, and Future" will be held at the same hall. The
event, which is organized by the Crescenta Valley Parish Education
Committee, features keynote speaker Dr. Vahoni Minassian and will honor
former Iraqi-Armenian Diocese Central Executive Council members.
PRELATE SALUTES PASSAGE OF HOUSE RESOLUTION 306
On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, the ANCA reported that the U.S. House
of Representatives adopted a landmark religious freedom measure, H. Res.
306, calling on Turkey to return Christian Church properties it stole
through genocide, and to end its oppression of Christian minorities in
present-day Turkey.
"We were overjoyed to learn of the passage of H. Res. 306. This is
indeed a monumental victory not only for the Armenian people but for all
those who value religious freedom, equality, and justice. We hopefully
anticipate the end of religious and ethnic discrimination and await the day
when our sacred sites are returned to their rightful owners, the Armenian
people" stated H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate.
PRELATE TO ATTEND "HRASHAPAR" SERVICE FOR HIS EXCELLENCY BISHOP MIKAEL
MOURADIAN
St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic Church has organized a
welcoming ceremony in honor of His Excellency Bishop Mikael Mouradian,
Eparch of the Armenian Catholic Church for the USA and Canada. The event
will be held on the evening of Saturday, December 17 at St. Gregory Church.
"Hrashapar" Service will be held inside the Church in honor of His
Excellency, followed by a reception at the adjacent Kouyoumjian Hall.
The Prelate, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian, will attend
the ceremony.
HOMENETMEN "ARARAT" CHAPTER BOARD MEMBERS
VISIT THE PRELACY
On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh
Mardirossian, Prelate, met with Homenetmen "Ararat" Chapter board members at
the Prelacy "Sulahian" Reception Hall. The delegation was led by Chapter
Chairlady Mrs. Helik Issagholian. Homenetmen Central Executive member Mr.
Vicken Tavitian, Executive Council Chair Mrs. Rima Boghossian and member Mr.
Vahan Bezdikian participated in the meeting.
The guests first and foremost thanked the Prelate for the visit of
His Holiness Catholicos Aram I to the "Ararat" Chapter in October on the
occasion of their 33rd anniversary. The guests also reported on the current
and future endeavors of their chapter. Mr. Vicken Tavitian further
elaborated on the successes of the "Ararat" Chapter in recent years, noting
that it counts more than 2,000 members. The guests also invited the Prelate
to the concert they have organized on Sunday, December 18 featuring Isabel
Bayrakdarian and Serouj Kradjian.
The Prelate and Mrs. Rima Boghossian both commended the members for
their service and wished them success in future endeavors and missions, as
well as reaffirmed that the collaboration between the Prelacy and Homenetmen
will remain strong and continue for years to come.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the guests presented the Prelate
with a beautiful illustrated Bible.
PRELATE PARTICIPATES IN COUNCIL OF ORIENTAL ORTHODOX BISHOPS MEETING
On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, the Council of Oriental Orthodox
Bishops held their quarterly meeting at St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic
Orthodox Church in Northridge, hosted by H.G. Bishop Serapion.
The day began with a prayer service inside the Church led by the
Prelates H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, H.E. Archbishop Mor Clemis
Eugene Kaplan, and H.G. Bishop Serapion, and with the participation of
clergy members from the three Churches.
Alongside the Prelate, Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian, Rev. Fr. Razmig
Khatchadourian, and Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian participated in the meeting.
The meeting focused on collaborative efforts and joint events in the
coming year, and after hearing reports on Sunday School and Youth
activities, made the following comments.
(1) The Council commended the activities of the Sunday School
committee, including their most recent endeavor, the Oriental Orthodox
Churches 7th annual Bible competition in which 160 youth participated. The
event was held on Saturday, November 18, 2011 at St. Ephraim Syriac Orthodox
Cathedral in Burbank.
(2) The Council will work to reorganize and revitalize the Youth
committee, and hopes they will begin to hold events regularly as in the
past.
The meeting concluded with a lunch reception.
