RUSSIAN BORDER GUARDS DETAIN OVER 230 TRESPASSERS IN ARMENIA THIS YEAR

The Russian border department in Armenia fully accomplished its
yearly mission in 2011, department chief Lt. Gen. Viktor Vlasov said
at a conference on the protection of the Armenian border with Turkey
and Iran.
"Border guards prevented incursions of armed groups, border trespassing
and contraband in their sector of responsibility," he said.
"Border guards detained over 230 border trespassers and seized over 140
pieces of cold steel, up to 25 firearm rounds, over one million rubles
worth of contraband and over one kilogram of poisonous substances in
2011," he said.
"In all, the Russian border department in Armenia fulfilled its yearly
mission, i.e. reliable protection of the state border of Armenia and
prevention of illegal border crossing," he said.
The conference planned measures for further improvement of the
protection of the Armenian state border with Turkey and Iran.
