YEREVAN
France's Minister for European Affairs Jean Leonetti clearly called
on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide and face its own history.
Armenpress reports citing Agence France Press that Leonetti noted that
Turkey must describe what happened in the early 20th century in the
Ottoman Empire as "historical fact of genocide". "Nations must have
courage to face their own history. Almost hundred years have passed
since the Armenian Genocide happened, the people responsible for it
died, it has just remained for Turkey to accept its own history.
Referring to the talks that the bill criminalizing the denial of the
Armenian Genocide has been initiated by the ruling party for winning
votes of French Armenians at the forthcoming presidential elections,
Jean Leonetti said, "And why does the opposition back this bill?"
On December 22 France's Senate will discuss the bill criminalizing
the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
