Milli Majlis condemns French parliament's decision on 'Armenian genocide'
    Fri 23 December 2011 10:03 GMT | 12:03 Local Time

Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan strongly condemned the French parliament's
draft law on made-up 'Armenian genocide' in its meeting on Friday.
MP Siyavush Novruzov condemned the French parliament's decision.

He said the French National Assembly, which didn't react to the
genocide committed in Khojaly at the turn of the century, showed
biased position when it called the unknown events of the beginning of
the century as `genocide' and to implement punishment for denial of
this. Unfortunately some of the Azerbaijani oppositionists and their
    families chose France for asylum'.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov said 'apparently France's budget needs in 45
000', speaking ironically about the French National Assembly's
    decision.

Speaker of the parliament Ogtay Asadov said the decision of the French
National Assembly was a non-considered and puny policy.

'This is a step taken not against Turkey, but against France itself.
Armenians are miserable people. They can not administrate themselves,
but are administrated by others. I would like to believe that French
president will not approve this decision'.

Asadov said Azerbaijani state, parliament and people always supported Turkey.

'May be an Azerbaijani scientist delivers a lecture in France and says
that he doesn't recognize so-called 'Armenian genocide'. Will they
arrest this person? If it is so, we will also ask the French citizens
coming to Baku that do they recognize Khojlay genocide? If they don't,
we also should fine them', first vice speaker of the Azerbaijani
parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said, APA reports.

'The French National Assembly's last decision on `Armenian genocide'
overshadows the democratic image of this county', deputy chairman and
executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Ali Ahmadov said
during the parliament's meeting on Friday.

He said further France can not give lessons of democracy to anyone.
Ahmadov said this decision seriously called the France's fair position
in the Minsk Group co-chairmanship in question.

We condemn the step by the National Assembly of France.
The statement came from Member of Parliament Ganira Pashayeva.
She said as Turkic people we view it as a humiliation and libel.

We cannot wait for the French Senate to consider it so that we can
express our attitude as Milli Majlis. I think that we have to appeal
as a parliament before this issue is raised in the French Senate'.

The Member of Parliament believes that it is necessary to point in the
message that the adoption of the law would affect not only the
French-Turkish relations but also the relations between France and
    Azerbaijan.

Vice speaker Bahar Muradova said Azerbaijani state, parliament and
people supported Turkey. `The French National Assembly's decision is
contrary to the European values. These claims against Turkey are
directed to Turkey's aspirations for EU membership. This decision of
    the French parliament is ridiculous'.

The parliamentarian Tahir Rzayev said the bill outlawing denial of the
so-called `Armenian genocide' passed by the French National Assembly
    is impudence.

`The decision of the French National Assembly regarding the so-called
`Armenian genocide' is a political immorality. It is disrespect for
the citizens of France to recognize the events that did not happen,
and to punish those denying it,' he said.

The parliamentarian said Azerbaijan must offer removal of France from
the co-chairmanship of OSCE Minsk Group.

MPs Mubariz Gurbanli and Igbal Agazade also condemned the French
National Assembly's decision and said Azerbaijan was always supporting
    Turkey.
