THREE-YEAR-OLD BOY ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTS HIS FIVE-YEAR-OLD FRIEND DEAD

A 5-year-old boy was shot dead by his 3-year-old friend after he
found a gun in their apartment, the Daily Mail writes.

The shooting took place in an apartment in Lakewood, Colorado, and
the adult present at the time of the death, Adam Laham, was arrested.

Police have not named either of the children involved, and there are
many questions surrounding the events immediately prior to the Friday
    morning shooting.

Both Laham and the 3-year-old are from Kansas, but their relation-
as well as their relationship to the deceased boy or the family who
owned the Lakewood apartment- is unknown.

Because Laham was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, he
has been charged with child abuse resulting in death and criminal
    negligence.

A neighbor overheard the tragic event.

'I just heard this big boom and I wasn't really sure what it was and
then I heard one of the parents go "Oh my God!" and I heard one of the
kids screaming,' Jill Johnston told 9 News, the local ABC affiliate.

The boy who was killed was apparently a resident of the home, and Ms
Johnston was familiar with the family.

'They're just the nicest family,' she said. 'You never hear any noise
from them, and the kids are always happy out here playing.'

It is unclear whether or not the gun that was used belonged to Laham,
23, but he was the only person charged in this case. Police have said
that they consider the death an accident, but that does not affect
    Laham's charges.

Neighbor Rachel Mendez watched as police arrived to treat the victim.

'He was kinda just bloody from head to toe so they took him out on
the stretcher and that was it,' she said.

The family was expecting a happy holiday season, with Christmas
decorations throughout the apartment and a decorated tree by the
    window.

'He can't unwrap the present under his tree so it just breaks your
heart,' Ms Mendez told 9 News.
