Third seed and home favorite David Nalbandian scored a clinical 6-1,
6-2 win over compatriot Juan Pablo Brzezicki in just 68 minutes to
secure his last eight berth at Copa Claro 2011.
"I did almost everything perfectly, it was a great match," said
Nalbandian. "I didn't have to run or defend too much. Some matches
you can do more things depending on what your rival does, but the
idea is to keep up this tennis."
Sixth seed Tommy Robredo also advanced to the quarterfinals with a
6-3, 7-5 win over Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas. He was later joined
by unseeded Argentine Jose Acasuso, who took two hours and 41 minutes
to battle past Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-1 to move ahead
in the draw.
Top seed Nicolas Almagro staged a comeback to beat crowd favorite,
Argentine Leonardo Mayer 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-3 in two hours and 13 minutes
of struggle, TennisEarth reported.
