CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLYMAN'S BILL ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE VICTIMS' INSURANCE POLICIES PASSES FIRST TEST

Last week, the California State Assembly's Rules Committee unanimously
passed AB 173, a bill by Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles),
which extends the deadline for victims of the Armenian Genocide and
their heirs to file lawsuits in California courts against insurance
companies, says a statement released by the committed.
The Rules Committee approved the addition of an "urgency" clause to
the bill, which would allow the legislation to take effect earlier.
~SThis legislation would make sure that insurance companies cannot
profit from the tragedy of the Genocide,~T said Assemblyman Gatto. "It
will also allow the California descendants of Genocide victims to
finally obtain justice in California."
Assemblyman Mike Gatto also recently co-authored a California
Legislative Resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, and calling
on the US Congress to do the same. Gatto represents Glendale, Burbank,
and the Los Angeles communities of Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Toluca Lake,
and North Hollywood in the California State Assembly.
