    THE ARMENIAN PHILANTHROPISTS' AVENUE TO OPERATE THIS YEAR

    YEREVAN

    YEREVAN, JANUARY 26, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian Philanthropists' Avenue
    will operate during this year. Head of the all-Armenian, international
    and church establishments ties department Kamo Sargsyan told Armenpress
    that the preparatory works have already launched. Tender of projecting
    statues that will be placed in the avenue was initially declared. The
    territory of the avenue will be the fourth sector of the Yerevan Oval
    Park, near Michael Nalbandyan monument.

    Kamo Sargsyan noted that in parallel to the creation of statues
    renovation works must be carried out in the territory.

    This year seven statues will be placed one of which will be a monument
    reflecting the general character of an Armenian philanthropist.

    Besides, taking into consideration certain standards statues of
    Hovhannes and Hovakim Lazaryan brothers, Alexander Mantashyan,
    Poghos Nubar, Galust Gyulbenkyan, Alek Manukyan, Michael Aramyan
    will be placed. Another philanthropist may join them. This issue is
    being discussed.

    Sargsyan said the process will be of continuative nature. The statues
    of those philanthropists will be placed who with their activity left a
    big trace in the history of Armenia, contributed to the reinforcement
    of Armenia-Diaspora ties, participated in the implementation of
    important national programs. Another standard is that 10 years must
    be passed since the death of the philanthropist.
