Two scenarios for Karabakh conflict in strategic defence review - minister
Yerevan, 30 June: Armenian Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan said
today that "numerous external and internal threats to Armenia's
security were analysed during Strategic Defense Review (SDR)".
Mediamax reports that the minister said this during the final session
of the interdepartmental committee of Strategic Defence Review today.
Seyran Ohanyan said that possible development scenarios in case of
materialization of threats and understandings of military planning
were elaborated.
"Two different subgroups on these considerations were elaborated. The
first subgroup provides that in medium-term prospect, by 2018, status
quo as to the issue of Karabakh conflict settlement will be preserved,
and the second subgroup provides for the possibility of peaceful
settlement of the conflict," minister said.
Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan noted
that external threats to national security dictate the necessity to
have a stable, technically equipped and combat-ready army.
"As a result of reforms we can state with confidence that as a result
of the huge work carried out, we have a system, which meets modern
requirements and is capable of withstanding all possible threats,"
Artur Baghdasaryan said.
