Yerevan Mayor expressed dissatisfaction with city transportation in Facebook
July 01, 2011 | 17:41
YEREVAN. - Mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan expressed his
dissatisfaction with Yerevan city transportation on his Facebook page
on Friday. The Mayor spoke on the sphere where there are no
investments as the field is somehow unclear.
`A new route network of medium and large buses will be set up. We
shall try to set it up in a way as not to change the current price in
future. We cannot possibly build a route network so as to ensure
repayment of large investments and cover business expenses. Thus, City
Hall will subsidize the network to be comfortable and accessible to
citizens,' Karapetyan wrote on his page.
As for current transport operators, the Mayor told that they are
welcomed to import medium and large buses and stay in the market.
Otherwise, new operators will replace them.
Karapetyan also spoke on subway high ticket price. The previous price
was based on credit obligations undertaken by the government. The
government continues to subsidy the subway, however, to provide secure
operations more funds required, while the state budget cannot allocate
additional money.
