Intensification of interstate cooperation - key task of
Ukraine-Armenia ties.
KIEV, July 1 (Itar-Tass) - - The present-day task of Ukrainian-Armenian
relations is to intensify the intergovernmental cooperation, Ukrainian
President Viktor Yanukovich said during his Friday's talks with
Armenian President Serzh Sargsian.
`We believe that the stepping up of the intergovernmental cooperation
and intensification of the high-level contacts is our top-priority
task now. Undoubtedly, such contacts help achieve mutually
advantageous tasks of a rather wide range,' Yanukovich said.
Ukraine considers the Armenian president's official visit to Kiev as
the token of friendship, he stressed.
In his words, the major issues, which were in the focus of the
tete-a-tete meeting of the two presidents, are the results of the
underused potential of the two countries in the trade and economic
relations and other spheres of interaction.
Herein, Yanukovich thanked the Armenian guests for its support of
Ukraine's stances in the international organisations, which `makes it
possible to create favourable conditions at the international level
for a more open and active policy of interaction to guarantee further
growth of our economies.'
In Sargsian's words, Armenia is extremely interested in closer
interaction with Ukraine in the trade, economic and humanitarian
spheres and in the foreign policy.
`We hope that when Ukraine assumes the OSCE chairmanship [in 2013], it
will make its contribution to the establishment of peace and freedom
in our region,' he said.
Over the past 18 months, Ukraine and Armenia significantly improved
the indicators of trade, Sargsian said, reaffirming his official visit
is the first one over the past ten years.
`This fact fails to meet the depth and level of our relations,' he stressed.
In addition, Yanukovich and Sargsian attended the signing of a package
of bilateral agreements.
The two sides signed a protocol on changes and amendments to the
intergovernmental agreement on air traffic, as well as an agreement on
cooperation between the two finance ministries, a protocol of the 5th
meeting of the Ukrainian-Armenian Intergovernmental Economic
Cooperation Commission and a cooperation program between two health
ministries for 2011-2013.
