Armenia seizes 90 kg of heroine in one catch

Armenia has seized 90 kilograms of heroine from a routine check-up at
the South Caucasus country's international airport near Yerevan,
Armenian media reported Saturday.
The stash of narcotic drugs was found during an inspection over the
cargo section of the airport electrical home appliances transported
from Denmark and the Netherlands on Friday, the sources said, without
detailing the package or the destination of the "drugged" cargo.
Armenian media quoted anti-narcotic authorities as saying that two
persons had been detained in connection with the finding of the
heroine stash.
Armenia registered 1,524 cases of drug trafficking in 2010 and seized
126.5 kilograms of various narcotic drugs, doubling the 2009 seizure
of 56.8 kilograms of drugs.
Last year's largest single seizure was made in April, when 10
kilograms of heroine, 5 kilograms of methamphetamine and 2 kilograms
of cocaine were found and seized from a stash near Armenia's Lake
Sevan tourist resort.
Due to its geographical position in between Asia and Europe, Armenia
has been witnessing a sharp upturn in drug trafficking and drug abuse.
Armenian law-enforcing authorities have claimed that most of the
trafficked drugs had originated from Asia and destined for Europe.
