JAVAKHK ARMENIANS AGAINST BILINGUAL EDUCATION SYSTEM INTRODUCED IN GEORGIA

    PanARMENIAN.Net
    July 7, 2011 - 13:18 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenians of Javakhk are against the bilingual
system of education in national minority schools, as it may hamper
    the study of native tongue.

"From September, at least 30% of the school subjects will be taught
in two languages. Many school principals are deeply concerned over
the innovation, however, are afraid to openly speak of it," Virk
party chairman David Rstakyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

For his part, head of Javakhk public movement Norik Karapetyan presumed
that a big Georgian school that is being built in Akhalkalaki at the
moment is meant to change the demographic situation in the region.

"The Armenian language in Javakhk should have the status of regional,
in compliance with the European Charter for Regional or Minority
Languages," he emphasized. "Javakhk is the home for local Armenians
and they must have the right to speak their native tongue."
