"GIVING PRIORITY TO UNITY OF THE CHURCH IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE CHURCHES IN THE
    MIDDLE EAST"
    Stated His Holiness Aram I

On Thursday 7 July 2011, His Holiness Aram I met in his summer residence in
Bikfaya with Maronite Archbishop of Beirut Boulos Matar and Rev. Dr. Habib
Badr, National Evangelical Church of Lebanon. Archbishop Nareg Alemezian,
the Ecumenical Officer of the Catholicosate of Cilicia, who had just
returned from Cairo, also attended the meeting. The two co- Presidents of
the Middle East Council of Churches discussed the message of the meeting of
the Standing Committee of the Heads of Oriental Orthodox Churches, and the
position of the Catholic and Protestant family of Churches regarding the
forthcoming Assembly of the Middle East Council of Church.

After listening to the comments of his co-Presidents, His Holiness Aram I
said, "Unity of the Church is essential priority for us in the Region. It
should, therefore, take precedence over other plans including Assemblies and
institutions. We should arrive at a common understanding irrespective of our
differences and work together for the unity of the church."
