POPULATION OF ARMENIA WILL DECLINE TO 2.3-2.5 MILLION TOWARDS 2050 - EXPERT

YEREVAN. - In the conditions of birthrate decline and aging society,
Armenian population will decline to 2.3-2.5 million towards 2050,
the director of local Population Fund NGO Gagik Hayrapetyan told at
a press conference.
According to the expert the statistical data sampling reproductive
behavior of the Armenian population says that 57% of households in
Armenia should have 3-4 children, but today the average number of
children is 2.
The same findings indicate that 68 percent of the respondents do
not want the second child in the next three years. Only 16 percent
stated the willingness to have the second child and the same number
of respondents have not yet decided on the matter.
