YEREVAN. - Armenian police officers did not let dairy products traders
from Gegharkunik region Chambarak community to travel to Yerevan on
Tuesday. The resident contacted Armenian News-NEWS.am with request
to sort out the problem.
"The police said they have put Chambarak in quarantine and have
clear orders not to permit the villagers' dairy products to Yerevan,"
the resident said.
Armenian News-NEWS.am contacted Head of the State Service for Food
Safety at the Ministry of Agriculture public relations office, to
clear out the facts about quarantine.
"Although laboratory studies showed there is no threat of murrain
in Gegharkunik region and in the country as a whole, the quarantine
announced in early June is still in power for safety reasons. However,
if the villagers have a corresponding document from veterinarian they
are free to sale their goods in the capital," official from the State
Service for Food Safety explained.
Cases of murrain infections were registered in Azerbaijan in spring.
