The proposals of co-chairs involve mutual concessions.
Azerbaijan's readiness to grant an interim status to Nagorno-Karabakh
is in fact a concession on part of Baku in the process of peaceful
resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The statement came from Ali Hasanov, head of the public and political
department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, in an
interview with Azerbaijan newspaper.
The principles on peaceful resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group should not be viewed as aimed at
providing an unambiguous victory to Azerbaijan or Armenia in the issue,
he said.
'These principles do not guarantee complete triumph of one party. In
any case, the proposals of co-chairs involve mutual concessions.
Willingness to grant an interim status to Nagorno-Karabakh is a
concession on part of Azerbaijan,' he stated.
Permanent status of Nagorno-Karabakh can be determined in normal
peace conditions after decades, and Azerbaijan is ready to grant it
an interim status until then, Hasanov added.
'The head of the state revealed some details of the updated Madrid
document, consisting of 4 basic principles, at a Cabinet meeting
held on Tuesday to discuss socioeconomic development of the country
in the first half of 2011.
Naturally, Azerbaijan is not fully satisfied with all of these
principles. In order to get completely satisfied with all of them,
we should start a war, liberate territories occupied by Armenians and
make Armenia sign a peace agreement suitable for us,' Hasanov noted.
'However, it is impossible under current circumstances. Therefore, we
are ready for mutual concessions by displaying constructive position,'
Hasanov underscored.
