Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov said the Russian military
base in Gyumri (Armenia) will not be used against Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan's military-political cooperation is at a sufficiently
high level, too. I don't think the Russian military base in Gyumri
will engage in any anti-Azeri activities, at odds with the level of
relations between Azerbaijan and Russia," Mamedyarov told Interfax.
On Russia and Armenia's broadening security cooperation, he said that
Azerbaijan does not interfere "in Moscow's relations with its outpost."
"Therefore, Russia must decide itself how it should strengthen
and maintain its outpost. On the other hand, we would welcome
more transparency and openness in decision-making, and better
predictability, so each one has a clear idea of the position assumed,"
Mamedyarov said.
