YEREVAN. - Currently, the position of Armenia in the region is
strongly entrenched provided that in the process of normalization
of Armenian-Turkish relations the ball is in Turkey's court and. In
addition, Armenia is the only stabilizing factor in the region, in
the light of constant threat coming from Azerbaijan, said the head
of the Regional Studies Center Richard Giragosian.
He stressed that the only way for Turkey to integrate into regional
processes is to establish relations with Armenia and Ankara will try to
go for this and open the border till 2015. The expert also expressed
his confidence that Armenian-Turkish protocols have already been
"buried".
Reflecting on the issue of Turkish recognition of Armenian Genocide
Giragosian noticed that mere recognition will not be enough for
the Armenian side. It is necessary to raise the question about the
consequences of this crime against humanity. He said that question
of the Armenian Genocide has become a domestic policy issue in Turkey.
