IMPORT OF MOTOR CARS TO ARMENIA HAS SHARPLY GROWN AND OF OIL PRODUCTS FALLEN

The import of motor cars to Armenia has sharply grown by 86% - up to
13 thsd units in the first half-year of 2011, against 7thsd at the same
period of 2010. At the same time, import of oil products reduced by 7%
- to 159 745 tons against 171 565 tons in the first half-year of 2010,
the report of the Customs Service says.
The motor-cars were imported to the republic over the reported period
for the total sum $108 589 thsd against $66 146 thsd in the first
half-year of 2010. The customs cost of the imported oil products
amounted to $162 880 thsd against $141 908 thsd at the same period
of 2010.
Incidentally, although the import of the oil products fell by 7%,
their customs cost increased by 14,8%. This is because of sharp
growing of prices for the oil products in the republic this year,
which is conditioned by the world prices growth.
The fact that import of motor-cars to Armenia has grown almost twofold,
and import of fuel reduced, is evidence of the fact that because of
high price for petrol and diesel fuel in the republic, more and more
motor-cars start using an alter4native fuel - natural gas. As oil
traders say, more than half of the motor-car fleet of the republic,
almost the whole public transport and taxi, use gas.
