DID TURKEY DECIDE TO UNITE ARMENIA, IRAN, AZERBAIJAN AND GEORGIA ON ICE?

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish Ice Hockey Federation (TBHF) started
consultations with the officials of Georgia, Armenia, Iran and
Azerbaijan to establish the Caucasus Ice Hockey League.
TBHF Vice President Serhat Enyuce and Directors board member Ufuk Ayhan
have already met with the Chairman of Georgian Ice Hockey Federation
Nugzar Paikidze and Secretary General Alexander Vashakidze, head
of Armenian Ice Hockey Federation Hayk Jaghatspanyan, as well as
representatives of Iran and Azerbaijan.
During negotiations, the Chairman of the Georgian Ice Hockey Federation
and the Secretary General first showed negative attitude towards
Armenia's participation in the league, but after talks they assuaged
their position.
As Turkush Hurriyet Daily News reported, negotiations with Azerbaijan
and Iran are currently underway, although Georgia is already set to
join the league. Armenia is also expected to participate. Two teams
from Turkey, two teams from Georgia and one team from Armenia will
take part in the 2011-2012 season.
Games will be held at the Erzurum Ice Hockey Rink in Turkey's eastern
province of Erzurum, due to the ease of land transportation from
neighboring Transcaucasus countries.
Officials are aiming to formalize the Caucasus League during the
semi-annual congress of the IIHF in Istanbul which will be attended
by 400 delegates between Sept. 21 and 23.
