Having ended all the matches in peace, Armenia now tops the tournament
list with 14 points, the Armenian sports website Armsport.am reported.
The team successfully defended its team in the final around
In the 9th final round of the tournament, the national chess
team of Armenia was competing with Ukraine. The games were held
between the following pairs: Vasily Ivanchuk - Levon Aronyan, Sergey
Movsesyan-Pavel Eljanov, Zahar Yefimenko-Vladimir Hakobyan, Gabriel
Sargsyan-Alexander Moysenko.
Yesterday the Armenian team was just one step away from becoming the
2011 world chess team winner. Today the team made the dream a reality.
This morning's victorious match ended in a 2-2 draw, which Armenian
team made peace with Ukraine. All four grandmasters tied their games
and made peace with one another. This, in turn, capped Armenia's run
in the tournament and lead to the much desired victory for this small
nation, who has made Chess-playing a mandatory course in its school.
Starting September 1 of 2011 all Armenian schools will teach chess
as a mandatory course.
In the first around the Armenian team won the match against Israel
3.5O~I0.5. Then it had a draw with the U.S national chess team 2:2. In
the third around Armenia tied its game with Russia 2O~I2 Here are
