The Presidents of the two countries had a face-to-face meeting,
followed by a document signing ceremony and a joint press conference.
At the joint press conference the two Presidents attached importance
to the intensification of cooperation under the Eastern Partnership
Program.
Referring to the Karabakh issue, Serzh Sargsyan said: "Democracy
is an exceptional value and any assistance of the European Union to
Nagorno Karabakh that will contribute to the development of democracy,
is welcomed."
Serzh Sargsyan reminded that democratic reforms have been implemented
in Nagorno Karabakh for 17 years, there have been three presidential
elections, and the power has never been inherited.
Touching upon the failure in Kazan, the President underlined that
"both Armenia and the international community had expectations from
the meeting. However, what happened was expectable because of the
absence of a corresponding atmosphere in Azerbaijan." According to him,
it's important to improve the atmosphere to achieve progress.
"We were very close to success in Kazan. It's necessary to respect the
right of the people of Nagorno Karabakh to determine its own future,
to have security guarantees. and develop its historic motherland:
everyone has to respect this right. There is no alternative solution,"
Presidnet Sargsyan stated.
