ARMENIA, IRAN DEEPEN ENERGY RELATIONS

TEHRAN, May 31 (UPI) -- The 10th joint meeting of Iran-Armenia
Intergovernmental Commission has been convened in Tehran.
During discussions Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and
Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan
reiterated the need for deepening relations and cooperation between
the two countries, especially in the realm of energy and economic
relations.
On Monday Iran and Armenia signed a memorandum of understanding
to boost cooperation on oil, gas and electricity and expand their
commercial and industrial ties.
According to the regional press, Iran and Armenia have agreed to build
a 500-800 megawatt power line to interlink their electricity grids,
Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.
Upgrading the two countries' governmental contacts, Iranian President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to visit Armenia in June to boost
relations. During Ahmadinejad's two-day visit, scheduled to begin June
6, Ahmadinejad is to meet with senior Armenian officials, including
President Serzh Sargsyan, to discuss improving bilateral ties and is
in response to Sargsyan's visit to Iran in March for Iran's Nowruz
festivities.
